Citi Reduced Mileage Awards from AA

In a tough economy everyone is trying to make due with what they have or less.  The same rule applies for people who are sitting on AAdvantage miles.  Luckily I participated in the AAdvantage miles bonanza last year where you could have gotten 75,000 miles per application.  We score three of them and have been enjoying mounds of American Miles.

How it Works

Fortunately American Airlines and Citi have teamed up to offer you tickets at a discounted miles price.  If you are lucky enough to find a ticket that is available for 25,000 miles (Which is really rare) then you can book the ticket with only using 17,500 miles for a round trip ticket.

If you were one of those who also has the Citi card then let me explain how to take advantage of this wonderful offer.  You need to hop on the AA.com website and find a horrific itinerary that works.  They know that you are flying on miles so they always make it as difficult as possible.  Once you have found an itinerary that works then proceed with the booking process until the itinerary can be Held.  This is one of the features that I LOVE about American.  Saving an itinerary to dream about is always a beautiful thing.  Especially for those people who are like me and probably analyze things too much!!

Once you have the itinerary held for your flight you then call 1-800-882-8880.  Hurry your way through the stupid automated system and get to a live person.  Tell them that you have a special booking code and would like for them to apply the discount code to your itinerary.  The discount code for April-June is TB8X7A.

What’s the catch??

  • Most of these destinations are smaller towns and your travel must begin in the lower 48 to qualify for these discounted offers.
  • The destinations change every quarter, but most of the destinations are very similar.  American also charges a stupid fee for booking your flight within 30 days of departure, so hurry and book for May or June on this miles discounted offer.
  • Good luck on finding an itinerary that isn’t a nightmare.

Great post! I have found the American customer service to be top notch. They are very helpful.

Miriam, bringing your triplets on an airplane is probably quite the endeavor. I have found that American is great when you’re bringing children onboard. My wife just came back from TN and was allowed to carry on her carseat on all four of her return flights.
