{"id":2995,"date":"2012-09-17T09:29:40","date_gmt":"2012-09-17T15:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/?p=2995"},"modified":"2012-12-14T12:26:50","modified_gmt":"2012-12-14T19:26:50","slug":"great-trips-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/?p=2995","title":{"rendered":"Eight Great First Trips Outside of the USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone who has felt any degree of apprehension about taking their first trip outside of the country needs to read Brad&#8217;s post about <a title=\"Ten Reasons to Take Your First International Trip\" href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/2012\/09\/04\/ten-reasons-international-trip\/\">taking your first international trip<\/a>. \u00a0Alongside his post it would be good for you to know what would be a good way to ease into your first trip.<\/p>\n<p>Most of these locations have the &#8220;All-inclusive&#8221; resorts, but if you&#8217;re looking for a real cultural experience I recommend that you steer clear of them.\u00a0 Try to get off the beaten path and experience the foods, culture, and people of the place that you&#8217;re traveling.\u00a0 The first time might be nerve-racking, but it&#8217;s not so bad.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div id=\"attachment_2998\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/049.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2998\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2998\" title=\"La Paz Waterfall Gardens\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/049-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/049-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/049-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2998\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">La Paz Waterfall Gardens in Costa Rica<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Costa Rica<\/strong>&#8211; \u00a0This place is paradise. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been there twice, and I&#8217;d still go back in a heartbeat. \u00a0They use the same alphabet that we use, and with Spanish many words are cognates (means they sound similar). \u00a0The food is incredible and the prices are very affordable. \u00a0They also drive on the same side of the road as us, so renting a car won&#8217;t be too stressful either.\u00a0 The wildlife is incredible and the scenery varies throughout the country.\u00a0 You can find yourself in the mountains, in the dryer areas, at the beach, in the city, or in a volcano if you&#8217;d like all in one little country.<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"attachment_3004\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Stonehenge.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3004\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3004\" title=\"Stonehenge\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Stonehenge-300x221.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Stonehenge-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Stonehenge.png 394w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stonehenge-Photo courtesy of http:\/\/jlnavarro.blogspot.com\/<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>England-<\/strong> \u00a0Although Expensive, it is easy because the language won&#8217;t be a barrier. \u00a0You might be confused when they call the trunk of the car the boot, but it won&#8217;t make a huge difference. \u00a0The countryside is incredible, and the pubs will be an experience that you&#8217;ll never forget.\u00a0 If you plan on renting a car in England be sure that you are comfortable driving on the left hand side of the road.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never done it with a car, but it is even difficult on a scooter, which I have done.\u00a0 When you travel to expensive places like England one important tip is to buy some of your meals at the grocery store.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll have to prepare your own food, but it will save you big $$ on the overall vacation.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Thai-Temple.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3003\" title=\"Thai Temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Thai-Temple-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Thai-Temple-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Thai-Temple.jpg 453w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Thailand<\/strong>&#8211; \u00a0You might be confused by this because you probably think that Thailand would be tough to navigate. \u00a0The fortunate thing about Thailand is that everything is written in Thai and English. \u00a0Every restaurant has their menu in English and the servers all speak English too.\u00a0 The food is absolutely incredible.\u00a0 I found it interesting that their breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are all pretty similar.\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t you just assume that everyone has &#8220;breakfast foods&#8221; or &#8220;dinner foods?&#8221;\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve been planning on having a custom suit made, this is a great place to have it done.\u00a0 Your other suits will never be quite the same.\u00a0 Make sure you order some mangoes and sticky rice for me!<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"attachment_3002\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Panamanian-Paradise.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3002\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3002\" title=\"Panamanian Paradise\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Panamanian-Paradise-225x300.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Panamanian-Paradise-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Panamanian-Paradise.jpg 453w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">San Blas Islands, Panama<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Panama<\/strong>&#8211; The US&#8217; influence with the Panama Canal has left a lasting effect on their country. \u00a0One thing that makes Panama easy to navigate is that their currency is the US Dollar. \u00a0No confusion of currency exchanges or people trying to rip you off.\u00a0 Make sure you bring a GPS to help navigate the confusing roadways.\u00a0 Also be sure to take a trip to the San Blas Islands to visit the Kuna Yala Indians.\u00a0 That is a cultural experience that will blow you away.\u00a0 You can see the straw huts in the picture.\u00a0 It is one of the best cultural experiences that I&#8217;ve had in my life.\u00a0 The food here is very similar to the food in Costa Rica, but it is all good if you ask me.\u00a0 By the end of the week you might be sick of rice and beans, but that&#8217;s better than trans fat, right? This whole country is a tourist trap. \u00a0The people are helpful and are always willing to give directions. \u00a0We made instant friendships with restaurant owners on our most recent trip. \u00a0Everyone was so friendly with our little boy calling him a &#8220;Bambino.&#8221; \u00a0You&#8217;ll always recognize the menus because as Americans we have an affinity for their food.\u00a0 The gelato is a must, even if you&#8217;re on a diet.\u00a0 I recommend the canela, (Cinnamon) flavor which is to die for.\u00a0 Very few places on Earth will give you quite a history lesson like Italy.\u00a0 Make sure you read up before your vacation and do lots of research, which will make your vacation a much more rich cultural and historical experience.<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"attachment_3000\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Akumal-Beach.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3000\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3000\" title=\"Akumal Beach\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Akumal-Beach-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Akumal-Beach-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Akumal-Beach.jpg 604w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chillin&#8217; at Akumal Beach<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Mexico<\/strong>&#8211; Somehow the news has spoiled Mexico&#8217;s reputation. \u00a0The common perception of Mexico today is that 100% of all tourists will be brutally murdered. \u00a0What a ridiculous thought. \u00a0As long as you stay away from the drug dealer&#8217;s girlfriend and don&#8217;t try ripping off the drug dealer your odds decrease by 1,000,000%. \u00a0Your odds of being brutally murdered drop to virtually nothing. \u00a0Mexico has a few dangerous areas, but if you steer clear of those areas and the drug trade you should be fine. \u00a0Mexico&#8217;s beaches are incredible. \u00a0Imagine yourself drinking an ice cold Coke in Puerto Morelos on the beach and all your fears should subside.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/070.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2999\" title=\"Banff Riders\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/070-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/070-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/070-1024x764.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Canada<\/strong>&#8211; \u00a0Ok, this is cheating. \u00a0Canada is very similar to the US.\u00a0 You won&#8217;t see too many differences other than you need to be sure that you&#8217;re driving in kilometers instead of miles.\u00a0 The Mounties will catch you and most likely won&#8217;t let you off the hook.\u00a0 The Banff National Park is INCREDIBLE.\u00a0 This place has Idaho and Colorado beat if you ask me.\u00a0 The currency is pretty easy to manage because the exchange rate is close to 1:1.\u00a0 The only other problem is things are still 25% more expensive up there.\u00a0 Ouch.<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"attachment_3005\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/001.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3005\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3005\" title=\"neuschwanstein Castle\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/001-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/001-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/001-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3005\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Germany<\/strong>&#8211;
