{"id":2879,"date":"2012-08-22T10:03:54","date_gmt":"2012-08-22T16:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/?p=2879"},"modified":"2013-01-03T22:26:33","modified_gmt":"2013-01-04T05:26:33","slug":"meet-credit-card-spending-limits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/?p=2879","title":{"rendered":"How to Meet Credit Card Spending Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I applied for my first credit card to acquire points and miles I was worried about meeting a $1500 spending limit and I had six months to do it.\u00a0 Soon I learned that almost anything can be put on a credit card.\u00a0 Meeting the spending limit has become increasingly easier as I&#8217;ve learned how to make it happen.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve compiled a list of easy ways to help you meet the spending requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Still worried about the spending requirement? \u00a0 Here are a few ides of things that you can purchase to help you meet the spending requirement within the allotted timeframe without spending money you wouldn&#8217;t otherwise spend.<\/p>\n<h2>Meeting <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Credit card\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Credit_card\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Credit Card<\/a> Spending Requirements<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Pay <strong><em>Utility Bills<\/em> <\/strong>ie: electricity, gas, sewer, water, garbage, etc. Most times this can be done without an additional fee and even in advance if necessary.\u00a0 Sometimes I&#8217;ve prepaid my city bill for four or five months in advance when needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Car Insurance<\/em>:<\/strong> Most car insurance companies accept credit card payments. \u00a0Pay your bill annually rather than monthly.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Health Insurance<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Many health insurers aren&#8217;t up to this yet, but there are a few. \u00a0PacificSource in Idaho allows for credit card payments on an automatic withdrawal.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Life Insurance<\/em>:<\/strong> \u00a0Once again, not all companies do this, but pay your bill in an annual sum to help increase your spending during the three months.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Reimbursed Business Expenses<\/em>:<\/strong> \u00a0Some lucky people out there can file their own business expense reports and be paid back for their expenses. \u00a0Anyone who has this option rather than using a business credit card should do this NOW. \u00a0Spend on your personal card for all business expenses then have the company pay you back in the form of a check.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Cell Phone<\/em>:<\/strong> Everyone these days has a cell phone, and most people have a data plan. \u00a0You can&#8217;t get one of these for cheaper than $70 per month. \u00a0There is no reason that this shouldn&#8217;t be put on a credit card each month to help you reach the spending requirement.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Gas<\/em>:<\/strong> \u00a0Every time you fill up the tank you need to score more miles.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Restaurants<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Eating out can really add up each month. \u00a0If you&#8217;re currently paying cash or using a debit card, STOP IT. \u00a0The Sapphire Preferred will give you 2 Ultimate Rewards per dollar, <strong>so get a twofer<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Home Improvements<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Most contractors these days accept credit cards. \u00a0Always ask them if it&#8217;s an option if there&#8217;s no added charge.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Medical Expenses<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Even if you have a FSA, HSA, or HRA many times you can spend your own dollars, then file for reimbursement from the plan administrator. \u00a0Don&#8217;t let the dollars come directly from your account, you&#8217;re missing miles.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Groceries<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Walmart takes plastic. \u00a0Always use it.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>College Tuition<\/em>:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Not all schools will accept your Visa, but many will.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Loan Payments<\/em>:<\/strong> \u00a0Very few loans will allow you to pay them off with a credit card, but it is always worth asking.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Travel<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Hopefully by now you&#8217;re flying for free<\/strong> and staying in free hotels, but there are scenarios where paying makes sense. \u00a0Always use a credit card to pay for your travel expenses.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Dish Network or <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"DirecTV\" href=\"http:\/\/www.directv.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">DirecTV<\/a><\/em>:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Who doesn&#8217;t have satellite? (I might be the only one without it) Set this up on autopay or pay for a year at a time if needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Store Gift Cards<\/em>:<\/strong> If you can pay off the credit card, and know that you&#8217;ll be spending more money at &#8220;Wally World&#8221; each month, but a Walmart Gift Card to help meet the requirement, then use it next time you head to the store.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Additional Cards<\/em>:<\/strong> \u00a0Most companies will allow you to give a spouse a credit card on your same line of credit. \u00a0That way you never miss one $ because you are in two places spending money at the same time.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Mortgage Payments<\/em>:<\/strong> \u00a0This does have a fee associate, but might be worth doing for a month if you are close. \u00a0Use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chargesmart.com\/\">Charge Smart<\/a> for this if needed (Thanks MMS)<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Rent<\/em>:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williampaid.com\/\">Williampaid<\/a> allows you to pay your rent online, but does cost a fee as well (Thanks MMS)<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Car<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0One car I purchased from a dealer that accepted credit cards. \u00a0I put the expense on my card and loaded up a few thousand miles. \u00a0Be careful with this to never allow your statement to close with more than 40% of your available credit utilized. \u00a0For example: \u00a0if your spending limit is $10,000, never let the statement close with more than $4000 owed on the card. \u00a0Pay it down before the close of your statement.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/worldwanderlusting.com\/2012\/10\/28\/meeting-minimum-spending-requirements-vanilla-reload-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Vanilla Reloadable Pre-Paid Cards:<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>These are especially nice when you buy them at office supply stores with your\u00a0Ink Bold<sup>SM<\/sup>\u00a0with Ultimate <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Loyalty program\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loyalty_program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Rewards\u00a0card<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Ask Siblings\/Parents\/Friends to Help<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;ve asked family to allow me to purchase something for them and allow them to write me a check in return. \u00a0Be very careful as this might spark a fire in your family relationships. \u00a0It can be great if you have siblings with large expenses, but pay everything with check, cash, or debit cards.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As you can see, there are <strong>tons of ways to meet the spending requirement<\/strong> for this credit card. \u00a0Prepay a few expenses if you need to, but don&#8217;t let a spending requirement keep you from wanderlusting with us.<\/p>\n<p>Get Credit Sesame, which will give you an estimate of your credit score free.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top: 10px;
